Litibu, Nayarit. Mexican Riviera.
4.14.08After driving by the entrance gates to the Litibu (Fonatur) development many times I finally got in to take a look. The development sits between Punta Mita and Sayulita. Litibu sits
from Punta Negra at the south end for all most 2 miles along the baygoing north. The Mexico Office of Tourism, development division, has put in all the all infrastructue including a water desalination plant. Then sold partials to major development companies to complete the individual resorts. When fully built it will have 5 major resorts have a total of nearly 4,000 rooms. This is a big deal for Nayarit.
I was previewed the property by Dave Rowland from the La Tranqilla Resort. We jumped in his golf cart and drove the Greg Norman golf course first. Great views, reasonable topography with a couple holes on the ocean. Of course since it is a Norman course, everthing seems first rate. I wanted to play. No dice. It won't be ready for play for another six months.
We viewed the Mexican style shopping center/plaza area. A good idea since most Nayarit resorts don't have convenient real shopping than there own shops. With the re-bar in the ground and going up quickly on the main condos/hotel I got a sense of how the resort lays out.
As you enter the main entrance the mega pool starts and runs through the main building lobby and then coninues as it waterfalls through the grounds of the entire resort as it runs all the way down to the beach and ends the huge infinity pool that sits parallel and directly on the beach. I haven't seen anything quite like this before, very unique.
The wide beach here in Litibu very friendly, Trish and I have been here many times for a day outing. Beautiful aqua blue water, fine white sand, gentle waves and goes for miles. It even has a coral reef at the south end point that has the best snorkleing in the area. My guess maybe a 30 minute walk from the resort.
Still in very early construction. But pre-construction sales are going on. Dave told me that they are very unique in that they have a program to fit virtually any need/want. Full ownership, fractional or hotel. You can now go see it yourself the next time you are in Nayarit.
